About The Artwork

In this work, a curious couple attempts to accolade each other. It is a voluptuous woman and a skeletal man. All this happens in a surprising garden with strange characters. "In the garden" is an allegory of departure. The blue and skeletal man must say goodbye to the Earth, this universal mother. In a multicolored enchantment, are invited to the ceremony, fantastic beings sometimes half-man, half-insect. A tree whose trunk seems engraved with faces speaks of ancestors and the past. Opposite him, a cosmonaut is about to fly to a certain beyond, almost a future... Artichokes, symbol of joie de vivre, are invited to this joyful funeral celebration. The work wants to be fantastic and is inspired by a world like Jerome Bosch. We will have understood, Patrick Gourgouillat speaks about a major event which marks our existences: the loss of a loved one. As usual, he opts for color and a dynamic composition to talk about serious things. This work was done with felt pen diluted with water (like watercolor) on paper. The colors were then fixed with markers. The work is framed with a passe-partout.

"Everything is important, everything is beautiful, everything is sad. Where do we start if we choose to tell life and make it a work of art? Michèle Mailhot My work is eclectic, both in its form and in the use of media. In general, I work in "series". I think that one of the ways of making things interesting is through diversity: the styles as well as the techniques are varied. It can be the animal world [The Animals], societal criticism [Human Behaviour], comic strip-like drawing [Mr Doggy], crazy images as if from a dream or nightmare [Short Stories], gentle melancholy [Sky Blue] or, based on my own experience, phantasmagorical worlds in a dazzling frenzy [Viva La Vida]. I am currently working on the latter series. These series are very different from each other. What interests me are the variations in energy that they imply for me. So I go from one thing to another like one goes through experiences. This is often what happens in art in general and in life in particular.
