The Voynich Manuscript is a mysterious handwritten book, the origin, content, and purpose of which have not been deciphered to this day. It was named after the antiquarian Wilfrid Voynich, who acquired it in 1912. The manuscript consists of approximately 240 pages and is written in an unknown script, accompanied by numerous illustrations of plants, star charts, unidentified beings, and anatomical representations. The difficulty in deciphering the Voynich Manuscript lies in the fact that the characters cannot be attributed to any known language. Numerous attempts to break the code have failed. There are various theories about the manuscript's origin, including the idea that it might be a secret script, a forgery, or an encrypted form of knowledge. Despite extensive research, the Voynich Manuscript remains a mystery, and its origin and meaning are the subject of ongoing speculation and debates in the scientific community. My new artistic works, inspired by the Voynich Manuscript, explore the secrets and mystical aura of this enigmatic text. Drawing from the unknown plants, fantastical creatures, and captivating star charts in the manuscript, the paintings create abstract-looking worlds. The use of mysterious symbols and an imaginary script adds an additional layer of inscrutability to the artworks. By transferring the mysterious atmosphere of the Voynich Manuscript onto the canvas (or other artistic media), a dialogue emerges between the past and present, reality and fiction. The painterly interpretation invites one to immerse themselves in the world of the unknown and develop their own stories and interpretations, much like the deciphering process of the original manuscript. The artworks can serve as visual poetry, conveying the fascination for the unexplained and mysterious aspects of the Voynich Manuscript's history.

Jutta Rika Bressem studied painting and design at the Academy of Design in Wiesbaden and graduated MFA. Since then she works as a professional artist and lives on the coast of the Northern Sea in Germany. As a professional painter with a Master of Fine Arts degree, I pursue a multifaceted mission that unites abstract modernity and contemporary trends. My works, predominantly created in acrylic and mixed media, are a harmonious interplay of bold and delicate brushstrokes, creating an expressive and dynamic visual language. I draw significant inspiration from artists like Joan Mitchell and Emil Schumacher, renowned for their groundbreaking contributions to abstract art. Like Mitchell, I strive to capture my innermost emotions and personal experiences on the canvas. Her powerful brushstrokes and vibrant color compositions serve as a wellspring of inspiration for me, shaping my own expressive language.Simultaneously, I find a role model in Emil Schumacher, whose abstract works evoke a raw and energetic atmosphere. His experimental approach and use of materials have influenced my style, encouraging me to explore different techniques and mediums. Through the incorporation of mixed media, such as collages, pastel chalks, or ink, I can add an extra dimension to my works and delve into a broader range of textures and expressive possibilities. In my creations, I construct abstract compositions that generate an emotional resonance through their expressive quality and interplay of colors, shapes, and lines. My brushstrokes fluctuate between bold, energetic movements and finer, subtle nuances, creating a visually captivating and multilayered narrative. The canvas becomes a space where my thoughts, feelings, and memories manifest, providing the viewer with room for their own interpretations.Within my artistic practice, I strive to bridge the visible and the invisible. My works embody an inner journey, wherein I explore the limits of the abstract and search for a universal language that transcends words and conventions.
