This work explores the notion of blind patriotism, the young mind being involved in things it does not fully understand. More US soldiers have died from PTSD and resulting suicide then were killed in combat in Afghanistan. This work is dealing with this injustice...Also taking into account Trump,s era of make America Great again we have a dual reality existing in the US at the present time. There is also an interplay between the painterly approach of Marlene Dumas and and the lower flesh of the body.

In the images Llewellyn works with he combines painting's history and techniques with images from the 1900s to the present day. These images and painting techniques, influenced by Titian to Bacon, are overlapped with each other to create a rich multi-layered experience. This creates a precarious balance between the past and the present leaving the audience with a sense of dislocation from a definite time and place. Man Sleeping in LA Apartment (2011) is a direct conversation with Jusepe de Ribera's Jacob Dream (1639). He is also interested in painting the misfit in society and the private personal moments that painting's light is not normally shone on, for example The Patient (2010) and Father and Son (2011). His work is primarily a dialogue with the history of painting itself and in particular the figure. It does not recognise one period in painting over another. Rather, it is inspired by consistency in quality and the discovery of successful new realities in paint. Llewellyn's work has been exhibited throughout Ireland, England and Germany and is found in both private and public collections throughout the world.
