This work is a reflection on memories, which guide our steps in existence. Would it be useful to keep and catalog them all? Would it help us understand? Perhaps it is enough to follow the sensations that remembering causes us to find a key to understanding ourselves ... Chiara Vallini, actress and playwright whome I often collaborate, wrote a text for this painting, which completes and enriches it. "it would be nice to remember the first step in our existence. the moment in which we were able to detach ourselves from the ground and look into the distance. A little further. I would like to remember exactly the sensation felt in making the first sound. Vowel or consonant? Which part of the body did I hear vibrating? And the first taste, the surprise in realizing that my mouth could be a source of joy or disgust. What did I touch as soon as I went out into the world? The air, the skin, a fabric? What smell did my nose let in? I would like, in a special room, to be able to keep all the memories, in alphabetical order, or by topic, with place, date and time, faces, speeches, weather conditions. And in that room I would like to be able to do some studies to understand why the darkness still disturbs me, why I love wool sweaters so much, why the scent of lemon makes me happy and why that time I had to lie. I open a drawer and, not finding the polka dot socks, I understand that the order does not belong to me. Striped ones will do just the same"

Raffaella Brusaglino, born in 1975, lives and works in Turin, Italy, as a freelance artist. She is is best known for her paintings where the characters, at the center of the scene, are blended with geometric backgrounds. Sharp and tapered profiles of faces and hands stand out on golden surfaces recalling the Byzantine preciousness. The subjects call to mind an imaginary Middle Age or the 15th century Florentine painting. Well-defined details follow indefinite, fringed masses, rough surfaces obtained with thick scratched matter, deposited with the spatula and spontaneous gestures. The texture comes from a wide range of media, including metallic foil, plaster, paper and threads. Brusaglino's art is both figurative and abstract, with traits of informal and surrealism. Her large canvases lead to a poetic, oneiric and magical dimension where any marking becomes memory, narration and metaphor according to a mysterious language; the absence of perspective clues creates a displacement effect that suggests multiple meanings. Raffaella Brusaglino's work focuses on a-temporal and universal themes regarding the human condition, such as communication,love,roots,self-awareness. She represents silent dialogues, between humans and, sometimes, meta-historic animals, emerging from a strong scenic impact background.
