Being of Puerto Rican descent on my mother's side, I was inspired by images of the people of the Caribbean diaspora. Their everyday lives, from work to play, engage in cultural traditions from dances to folk art while surrounded by the beautiful landscapes and their vibrant colors. I would hope the viewers like green, as the color isn't always a favorite. LOL, what they feel—I'm not certain, honestly; they may or may not like it, and I'm ok with that. Acrylic paint has always been the easiest medium for me to use,, and it's waterproof just about when it dries. The subject was a bit of a challenge for me given the style and subject matter, the intricacies of the shapes, and the monotone color (there are about 14 to 22 shades of green). I searched for a few inspirational images and made up my own interpretation. As per the style, I'm still working on how to produce proper Cubism. This ended up being a hybrid of synthetic and analytical; I have a long way to go before I master the style in total.

Born and raised in Harlem, NYC, I have been a self-taught mixed media and acrylic artist for the past 28 years. I have admired the works of mostly black artists from the 1940's to the present. As a child, I loved visiting museums, taking advantage of NYC's rich cultural offerings. However, I didn't see the works of artists of color or women curated for the walls of all the famed venues, mainly white male artists, and yet there is still much work to be done in the way of representation for everyone else. My cultural background is Puerto Rican and Black American; some of my work reflects that, but I also create abstracts and whatever else I'm in the mood to create.
