About The Artwork

"Garish: Playthings", 2014; Acrylic, Ink, and Spray Paint on Wood; 20" x 24" There are many things we grow out of. When I was in high school, being a child of the 90's, I was infatuated with Pearl Jam's "Ten" album like most my age. The thought of Grunge music was appealing, and the concept of counterculture and rebellion stoked the flames of my youth. As I grew older, however, and studied advertising, I realized more and more how marketing works and how I was duped into purchasing things due to my age and the aggressive ways marketers work to side with their audience. Nowadays, the girl with the handgun on the cover of the "Jeremy" single has little meaning. The danger of the .357 is lost. It's a toy gun with a "BANG!" flag coming out of the barrel - and an old joke that lost its punchline for me long ago. Sometimes Playthings need to be put down and discarded.
