“Aasha. The Spiral of Life and Death” Aasha - meaning of Hope and Life. She is an extraordinary, multifaceted piece. A very long, educational and exciting work to create. She evolved amazingly with only a few teardrops and foot stomping sessions! along the way! The first in my "SHRED THE BOX" Series. Two more challenging and rewarding pieces will be available soon! This painting symbolizes Life and Death. The Circle of Life. And all the spirals in between. I picture Aasha as floating and dancing in the ocean, all at once. She appears to be underwater in between stages of transformation. She is not quite sure if she is alive or not. Or if someone hurt her. And is that egg shells floating next to her…Could she be holding life in her belly? As her life ripples away? Or maybe you imagine something different. Let your imagination soar! There is alot of symbolism in this work and the life and death concepts roam through my mind. And the possibilities. I wanted and am still working on incorporating resin pours with other mediums and techniques to have my work fresh, unique with depth. Aasha was created with many mediums, starting with an unfinished painting using pastel. After 5 coats of epoxy resin, she truly looks as though she is drifting under crystal clear water or perhaps ice, with a surface, smooth as glass. I also incorporated quartz crystals, eggshell, stones, suede, vintage medallions from my Mom’s 60’s belt, coral, copper and more! Melissa Libutti ASYLUMARTWORX

"Life is Art, Art is Life" Now is my time for personal success and growth. I have always wanted to have the opportunity to indulge myself in my art and feel accomplished as an artist. After recently losing my beloved husband to cancer and moving in with Mom after raising children, working as a professional make up artist, and achieving a digital design degree., the time has come. I studied art at University of Connecticut and Fullerton College. I have a degree in multimedia from Front Range College, CO. I have shown and sold my work in California, Las Vegas, Colorado and now in Florida. Art is a wonderful part of life and this world. Can you imagine life without art? It is everywhere. I sometimes feel that many people aren't aware of the dramatic force art has on our lives and how it impacts humanity. I began painting taking a painting class after the birth of my son. It was my Father who encouraged me to do so. Himself an artist, encouraged me, I wanted to take ceramics. I felt quite intimidated and still do at times! Mr. Robert Egan from Fullerton College was the perfect type of instructor for me. Letting us to explore our imaginations, encouraging to to pursue our ideas. I was very into texture. The Master Impressionists influenced me as well as the art of Africa. I studied the cultures, art and people of Africa and used those influences in my art. I also loved and still do, abstract expression. I tend to paint what I feel. I love to have my music loud while my feelings extrude onto canvas. Now I still love to experiment with different techniques and mediums and have gotten involved with using resin. It is a magnet for me. My goal is to combine my different mediums and techniques to be original in the resin realm. I love doing pours but, would like that to be a small part of the piece. My newest pieces have 5-6 layers of resin. Even my pours have more than 1 layer of resin and mixed media. so many ideas, so little time.
