Mysterious and dreamlike, a unique etching. A green and lush landscape, full of drama and intensity. The watery foreground leads to dark hills with lighter, brighter green in the background. When looking at this artwork, you could almost be drawn into a story. It is unusual to print right to the edge of the paper when creating an etching (often a white border is left), but I have chosen to do so here to create an atmosphere of drama and intensity. I have also 'run the paper' twice through the printing press, re-inking the etched plate each time, again adding depth and creating a slightly 'out of focus' effect that adds to it's dreamlike quality. This etching is created on a zinc plate, etched with the design. Each time it is printed, different amounts of ink and colour are applied to the etched plate, making each print unique and different. This technique creates individual 'monoprints'. No two are the same, and so re numbered '1 of 1'. To create this etching a zinc plate was used, aquatint (melting resin dust onto the plate with a flame, to allow the ink to 'grip'), litho crayon, acid and burnishing. The professional etching ink is smeared onto the etched plate and selectively removed. The image is created by placing the inked plate onto the bed of an etching press, with a sheet of 'Somerset' heavy weight, white paper, on top. The press is then 'hand wound', pressing the plate and paper together, transferring the image onto the paper. This print is signed and dated on the rear (please see additional photograph). A Signed Certificate of Authenticity will also be included. Artwork will be sent to you carefully wrapped in tissue paper, in a sturdy cardboard tube.

Lizzie Butler is an expressive, semi abstract artist, who works in a contemporary style in oil. Her strong spatial awareness and a passion for working en plein air, inform her practice and lead to paintings that recreate the intangible atmosphere found in landscapes and the peaceful silence of nature. Most of her paintings are begun outside and completed in her London studio. Although working primarily in oil, Lizzie also enjoys the physicality of exploring etching with zinc and steel plates, to create intaglio prints. Lizzie Butler's artwork has been exhibited at Leighton House Museum, Kensington, London, The Russell Gallery, London, and several other Galleries. Lizzie's paintings can be found in collections in America, New Zealand, the UK and across Europe, with several customers returning to buy further paintings and place commissions. March 2019 - Two pieces shortlisted for the Royal Academy of Arts summer exhibition.
