The picture on this print depicts a wrestling match between Atalanta and Peleus, after the Caledonian Boar hunt. The legends say that Atalanta being the only woman in the Argonauts army, her bravery and strength was always contested. So to eliminate all doubts, she let any Argonaut warrior to challenge her to a wrestling match. Peleus was the one that challenged her and lost, solidifying her true value as a Argonaut warrior. The pot on which the scene is drawn is another type of Aryballos, used for storing perfume and oil. This again marks the connection with the feminine character. This is one of the 9 prints from the collection entitled Elysium Fields. These prints are based on the hero archetype that has lasted many centuries, suffering minor "adjustments" along time. The starting point of this collection of prints is Greek mythology which is in close relation with Comic book strips from nowadays. I chose to emphasize this connection by replacing the ancient heroes with comic book heroes. The scenes in which the heroes appear are like the illustration on the Greek ceramic pots. The Greek heroes: Hercules, Achilles, Odysseus, Jason and Atalanta. The comic book heroes are: Hellboy, Wolverine, Batman, Superman and Wonder Woman. The title refers to the heaven for heroes from Greek mythology.
