About The Artwork

I intended to start a new series, but quickly noticed that the image was contrived. With that, I put the brushes down and started moving paint around with my hands, a method I have been using for several months now. Recognizing that switching brushes moves the element of surrender and mediation away to a more conscious approach Im finding this method more rewarding. Using paint sticks is another element of penmanship that I've been enjoying. The fragmented figure calls to mind the cartoonish qualities of a Philip Guston painting, with a more serious undertone.

I'm fascinated by the essence of painting itself—its process, how the paint moves on the canvas, and the vivid expressiveness of colors and textures that create a tangible and emotional bridge between my work and the viewer. The layers of paint invite you into a world of sensation and meaning that's yours to interpret. My approach often involves revisiting and reworking the canvas, much like the way relationships evolve and renew over time. My art reflects my journey—my introspections, connections with others, and, fundamentally, my relationship with painting itself. Human figures frequently emerge in my work, symbolizing the universal experiences of emotion, values, encounters, and the passage of time. These figures capture fleeting moments, bridging the present with the memory of a distant, earlier self. While I play with the balance between reality and imagination, I also embrace the unpredictable, using it to capture your attention and keep you engaged. A recurring theme in my work is visibility, particularly reflecting on my identity as a woman navigating a phase of life that often feels overlooked by society. It's this struggle for visibility, for recognition, that resonates through my art, connecting with viewers on a profoundly personal level.
