The thick, rough smatterings of oil paint in this tumultuous composition together conform to depict the torso of a human figure, blue and green breasts dominant, and a head in three quarter profile stretching out to the right center of the picture plane, nearing the far right edge. The expression of the face, as well as the attitude of the stretched body conjure an attitude of intense longing, or reaching, for an important, sought after goal. When considered in tandem with the title, immediate recognition dawns that the human figure depicted, albeit coarsely, in the painting, is striving for the familiarity and comfort of home, after which has ostensibly been a particularly long and arduous journey either physically or metaphorically. Irregardless of one's past, position or orientation the emotional context of this scenario can be universally understood. A subliminal alternative reading having the aforementioned two breasts forming instead the head and torso of a secondary diminutive figure, attitude of posture running counter to that of the adult, quickens the intensity of the theme of seeking the familiar ground of home; that of bringing a baby to a refuge of safety in an emotionally raging sea.
