There is in the city center of Rio de Janeiro a neighborhood called Lapa, an important cultural center where samba, after going down the hill, went to stay. Like most of the central regions of the Brazilian capitals, they are experiencing an eternal process of decay and revitalization. There, there is a building known as Os Arcos da Lapa on which a prosaic tram travels, which has remained for a while. Such construction clearly refers to Portugal, since Rio was invented by the Portuguese. It refers to Lisbon and its arches, which refer to Roman aqueducts, people dominated that dominated that region for centuries. Even today it is possible to find several historic aqueducts scattered around the country, as in Óbidos, for example. These constructions of pointed arches are the main motive of the present work organizing the entire composition, which seeks in the constructivist tradition the essence of its structure. I used charcoal and dry pastel on canvas to define the composition and texture of the background, then I worked with acrylic paint, Contay crayon and Posca pen to shape the elements and establish a chromatic logic. The work measures 90x150x3 cm and is ready to be hung on the wall. The side finish eliminates the need for a frame.
