Emerald Shell This painting had been long in the making, in the sense that I had begun painting it a very long time ago in this ‘flare’ painting style of mine and had left it unfinished for a very long time. I am talking about years, as with others like it. So this year, in 2021, I made it a point to finish up this one and others, to have more complete works. ‘Emerald Shell’ is an easy on the eye seascape painting, yet having lively colours and an intricate sea. The inspiration likely harks back to when I was way, way younger and used to have fun designing boats, a favourite pastime of mine. One could say it is sort of a naïve style in painting that I had developed and like mentioned, it is part of my ‘flare’ paintings. Naïve it may seem, but it does have quite a bit of detail, which takes time from design to finish. Overall, it is a flowing vivid piece, with light and movement, which are elements prevalent in a lot of my work. Depicted here are a couple of crab catchers in their cute little green boat, bobbing around on a clear turquoise sea at dawn. Adding to the picturesque sea scene are a chorus of seagulls, hanging about to have their chance of having a catch themselves. It gives that distinctive look that most of us assimilate to the fresh sea. As for the title, well the boat is that colour of green and it is like a buoyant shell on the sea, apart for the fact that the crew may gather a few shells along the way too. As for the registration markings CC5 on the hull, that stands for ‘Crab Catchers’ and the number five happens to be my favourite number. So in a nut shell, the purpose of this oil painting is to have something nice to look at and perhaps freshen up one’s mind or surroundings. It is modern looking, which is painted on a gallery wrapped stretched canvas, having all four sides neatly painted in a nice ultramarine blue. Therefore, as intentioned, it looks complete as it is and does not need any framing. Having said this, it would look good in a frame just the same. The painting is signed on the front and on the back are its details and makings.

Jason is a painter and illustrator of various styles and different media for different ends. Principally a surrealistic and abstract artist, he has a fondness for satire and caricature, with a hint of humour fantasy and the whimsical. Nevertheless, there is a realistic and a sober aspect to some of his work too. His different genres of works are ongoing series which are added to from time to time, whether it is his Aviary, Abstract, Allegoric or any other style he employs. World events, social affairs and politics draw his attention, but he can be inspired by everything and anything seen, heard or felt. His expression can be direct or ambiguous. What is prevalent throughout his work is light, movement and flow, hardly any black is employed, leaning towards enlightenment.
