About The Artwork
Exhibited in December 2023 in Accra, Ghana, Sit By the Fireside was an immersive art exhibiton featuring an old Ghanaian folktale that enabled the audience to participate in the story by voting for their preferred character. To create the experience, the room was fully covered in mats, and a scent was curated for the room that invoked a sense of smoke from the assumed fire and whimsy. With the use of projection mapping, a blank stretched dyed organdy on wood canvas formed the backdrop of the gif video projection. The next artwork featured a painting of acrylic on stretched dyed organdy on wood canvas, following a painting of acrylic, spray paint, plexiglass, and sand on wood, and a sculpture fashioned with clay, artificial hair, and optic fibre lights. In the centre of the room were 4 bowls containing miniature clay sculptures of the objects representing the characters to be used as voting tokens.

Mary-Jo Adjetey is a contemporary artist, data analyst, and manager of a candle shop living and working in Accra, Ghana. Born in 1992, she spent her earlier years drawing on her bedroom walls. At Syracuse University, she studied Math and Art, then proceeded to obtain an MSc. in Data Analytics at the University of Warwick, U.K. Besides working with the traditional art mediums of painting and drawing, she also honed her skills in graphic design and digital art. Influenced by her background in math and data visualisation, she often applies some principles to the way she constructs her artworks.
