The CMR Convention is a United Nations convention that was signed in Geneva on 19 May 1956. It relates to various legal issues concerning transportation of cargo by road. All the European countries are members of this Convention, and several other countries, such as Lebanon and Iran are members. Based on the CMR, the International Road Union developed a standard CMR waybill. The CMR waybill is prepared in three languages. On the back is the text again in three languages. This aids the waybill in being accepted and recognised throughout Europe. Checked by customs and police, a transport document must be present when the shipment is transported. The driver who uses the consignment should be familiar with the consignment, and with the waybill, able to inform the recipient about the importance of the various topics on the waybill. John Steyaert presents a CMR collection that was part of the administration of transportcompany DANDOR from Zoersel, Belgium. The collection relates to the period november and december 1996. The driver and owner of Dandor, Jef De Schutter, made daily trips with his truck with plate GNP-856 from several chemical companies back to the Port of Antwerp. In order to increase the ‘artistic value’ of the waybills pictures of seventies nude model Roberta Perdon were used by John Steyaert. Special thanks to Julia Christiaensen, the wife of Jef, for sharing the waybills after the passing of Jef in 2016.
