About The Artwork

Relief made of 9 steel plates 5 mm thick. These have different grinding structures and are glued to a 12 mm thick wooden plate. This has a metal suspension for hanging on a wall and a hole for a steel axle to present it alternatively in a wooden base rotatable on a plane. Weight 2 kg The 2D relief is a special perspective view of the 3D sculpture trequada. The photos show pictures in which the steel plate is turned slightly in the same light. The light reflections on the structures of the metal change fluently. When the relief hangs on the wall, the transformations of the reflections take place when you change your viewing perspective.

Nikolaus Weiler lives and works as a freelance sculptor in Berlin since 1993. The focus of his work is the construction of space and bodies from and to all sides. The aim is a universal and objective sculpture in the field of tension between dynamics, movement and change. The spatial sculptures consist of different materials (metal, wood or glass), which complement and expand each other in their properties. The all-dimensional sculptures are a special kind. They can be presented on different sides and thus change their spatial and physical expression in a vivid manner. They can be weightless, static, dynamic or spacious. Technique of metal - wood constructions The metal molds are laser-cut and shaped using bending devices. Many wooden parts are fitted into the metal molds and glued to plywood substructures. This prevents cracking and warping of the wood in the rigid metal frame. Wood and metal constructions are firmly and stably bonded with special adhesives. In addition, the metal sheets are secured and anchored in the wood with special countersunk rivets (almost invisible). All surfaces are finely sanded and primed with linseed oil varnish and shellac. Finally, they are preserved and finished with Renaissance polishing wax. http://www.nikolaus-weiler.de
