Germany
Margit Orlogi (*1958 in Lower Bavaria), German sculptress and painter, apprenticeship in Italy (Carrara, Pietrasanta), lives and works in Lower Bavaria and in stone centres worldwide as well. ______________________________________ There’s a recurrent theme in Margit’s works, some kind of comprehensive signature shaping her paintings as well as her sculptures. In both, Margit succeeds in expanding into the core, in transforming the surface of a canvas or a stone in such a way that hidden images become visible. As a sculptress, she treats each stone like a companion: gently, inquiringly, interrogatively. It’s like a dialogue. Usually, she faces monumental fragments of granite, marble, sandstone or travertine. Margit sees the structures and stories hidden in the stone and reveals them with a sculptress’s tools. She scrapes, scratches, breaks stones and cuts. She helps the stone to find complete expression. Once polished, it starts to sparkle and inner images come to light. When it comes to her paintings, the creative process starts with the surface and ends inside. Thus, monochrome lacquer art becomes three-dimensional, classical canvases are primed and built-on layer by layer by layer. While those lacquer artworks take inner shape due to the interplay of light and darkness, sculptural paintings reveal their structures and indentations with the help of systematic intervention. Painting, stone, there is no difference for Margit – chisel becomes brush, angle grinder becomes pencil and vice versa.
