acrylic colours on handmade thai mulberry paper(kada sa), deckled edges, 9.8 x 13.5 in, 25 x 34.5 cm Classic Peranakan architecture in Singapore. I do love old architecture … so every now and then I’ll do one of these. And every time the brush stroke ends up different, as the total feel, so each one really stands on its own merit. This time the paint was applied thick and strong. The texture of the parchment paper just adds to the overall mood. Now these old buildings have been beautifully restored in Singapore, often each one painted up far more colourful than the original. Here I have decided to keep the colours of the building as it now stands. I use a traditional mulberry paper handmade in Thailand. It’s a parchment like paper, strong yet pliable. I have the paper made to this size to get the deckled edges which adds to the textural effect. Please note for the print I have had to crop away the uneven ‘deckled edges’. The original is intact. The close up picture is to get a better feel for the texture and brush strokes of the painting. Then there’s the work in progress, and me with the painting. Interested to have your idea painted in this style? Maybe a storyboard collage from a recent travel, your house or street? Contact me.

Malaysia
I'm Canadian born now residing in Malaysia. I've been working professionally as an artist since 1980 ish… time flies. I have exhibited my paintings in Vancouver and coastal B.C., Bangkok, Singapore & Malaysia, areas I’ve lived in over time. Now I do it all online. I’ve traveled extensively over the years and you’ll see that people, places and cultures are a recurring theme in my art. I attach importance to papers I use for my paintings. Some are done on acid free watercolour papers, from 180lb weight to 300lb. I also use handmade parchment type papers. These are thick yet pliable, strong, with deckled edge that add to the look of my paintings. I’m still a passionate guy. I’m passionate about life and people, passionate about art and painting. And I feel really at my best when I’m putting all these things down on paper. I only wish I had more time to delve into all these activities of mine. But I work with what I have. My health sucks so I’m slowing down. And there's more: book illustration, portrait, comic strip, caricature. I also work with camera and computer, to create the images brush strokes just can't deliver. So follow my brush work and hopefully you’ll find that special painting meant just for you.
