Divas is a series inspired on four woman that have had my attention for number of years now. This paining is of Tina Modotti. Tina Modotti b.1896 d.1942, (45 years old), born in Italy. Photographer, model, actress, revolutionary, political activist. Mentored by photographer Edward Weston (known for his highly focused black-and-white images), Modotti captures scenes and personalities of the social context in Mexico in the 1920’s. She became a member of the Mexican Communist Party. Partner of Cuban activist Julio Mella. She was exiled from Mexico, spending years in Moscow where she engaged in various missions until moving to Spain and after the collapse of the Republican movement due to Civil War, she returned to Mexico. Modotti photographed multitude of intellectuals, political radicals and communists. Mexico was always her Muse. Poet Pablo Neruda composed Modotti’s epitaph. Madonna has become a major collector of Modotti's work. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tina_Modotti

My name is Ynes, I am Latin-Kiwi full time artist, living in the beautiful South Island in Timaru - Te tihi o maru. I hail from Mexico and been in New Zealand - Aotearoa over ten years. I am married to a Timaru man that is also an artist. I create art with a few main ideas in my mind, keep it simple and never boring. They help me complete the puzzle of creating. My style is bold, colourful, and smart. I am passionate about life and happiness. I am a disciplined artist that enjoys a day of solitude and work. I am focused on equity, and achievement in high contrasts. I held my first Solo Exhibition at the Suter Art Gallery Te Aratoi o Whakatū in November 2021. Since then I have relocated with my husband to our house in Timaru and build a 50 m2 studio where I currently work full time.
