The Artist's journey began with the art of collage. In an interview in Los Angeles, she admits to eagerly flipping through the pages of Triple X newspapers found in kiosks throughout the city. She seeked out the coveted want ads in the back of the free advertisements. With precision and care, she would carefully cut out images of stunning women and place them within collage works, creating a visual tapestry. It was her way of creating a "safe haven" for these captivating ladies, as if displaying them on a wall could protect them from the harsh realities of the street life. That was 2007. In 2020, during the pandemic, she finds inspiration in Andy Warhol photographs. Experimenting with colors and abstract shapes, the artist uses charcoal to draw six squares and rectangles. While searching through previously painted, stenciled, and printed papers, she stumbles upon a first edition copy of "Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf". For this piece, she cuts out sections of the book and incorporates them into the art alongside lines from the play that resonates with her. Now, some may gasp at the thought of cutting up a first edition book, but that is exactly what this artist has done. In keeping with geometric shapes, and adding touches of gouache to the bright fluorescent colors it makes these little abstract pieces pop. The frames for the collection were also repurposed from an antique shop; they had been discarded in a recycling bin and given new life with careful sanding, painting, and application of gold leaf by the Artist. Each frame in the collection of "little abstracts" is 10" x 10" x 1" or 12" x 9" x 1".
